As our colour of the month, we are currently obsessed with all things yellow!
It can be such a great colour to use when upcycling furniture, transforming something old and drab into a bright focal piece for a room.
It’s bang on trend too. Each year, Pantone names its Colour of the Year, predicting which colours will be in vogue over the coming months. This year one of the two chosen colours is Illuminating Yellow.
[Pantone Color of the Year 2021 / Introduction | Pantone] Pantone explains: “Illuminating is aspirational and gives us hope. We need to feel that everything is going to get brighter – this is essential to the human spirit.”
And it’s fair to say that many of us could do with a little mood boost after the year we have all been through.
The second Pantone colour of the year is Ultimate Grey, a fantastic pairing with a vibrant yellow. Blue and monochrome colour schemes will also work well with this strong design choice.
Used indoors or outdoors, yellow works well for both classical and modern looks, though it’s fair to say that it should be used with a certain amount of caution as too much can be a little overwhelming on the senses!
As one of the three primary colours, yellow can’t be mixed or formed from other colours.

Like sunshine in a tin, this shade was inspired by the development of Chrome Yellow pigment – the first non-earthy yellow used in 19th Century English drawing rooms – as well as the yellow found in Chinese hand-painted wallpaper.
It’s also a great fifties vintage colour.
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Tilton
A deep, bright mustard yellow Chalk Paint™, Tilton is one of three exclusive colours Annie has created as a part of the Annie Sloan with Charleston collaboration.
The colour was inspired by the beautifully painted circle motif on Vanessa Bell’s decorative wardrobe from 1917 in Charleston Farmhouse.
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Cream
This smooth neutral is based on the traditional creamy yellow used on old woodwork. You can use it as part of a retro fifties look or pair it with Paris Grey for a vintage French look.
